Born into a childhood of bright wonders, young David Copperfield is wrenched into a world of terror as a controlling stepfather shows him how discipline feels in the body. Guardians, tyrants, and runaway donkey carts drive David from London to Dover, to the doorstep of his formidable Aunt Betsey: Patron Saint of Resting B*tch Face. Told through much homosexual pandemonium, a question lingers: how do we look to our past without bitterness—but instead with wonder?
